8th Session of Intergovernmental Russian-Turkish commission on trade and economic cooperation
The eighth session of Intergovernmental Russian-Turkish commission (IGC) on trade and economic cooperation took place in Moscow on May 27-28. The Russian side was co-chaired by the Minister of industry and trade Viktor Khristenko, the Turkish
side – by the Minister of energy and natural resources Hilmi guler.
The delegations agreed to hold regular ministerial consultations on trade and foreign economic issues. The first such a meeting is set to be held this autumn. The sides stressed the importance of revising the current legal base of the
relationship between the two countries and highlighted the necessity for a comprehensive agreement on economy and trade issues.
The ministers regarded as positive the bilateral dynamics of cooperation in energy. In particular they agreed to encourage the participation of the Russian companies in tenders for construction of gas infrastructure facilities in Turkey.
The Co-chairs of the IGC called on further development of economic cooperation including the investment exchange. The Russian side suggested that the IGC more closely address the new spheres of bilateral cooperation.
