Press-release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovs meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu

On July 1, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who is taking part in a meeting of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Council of Foreign Ministers in Sochi.

Building on the telephone conversation between the Russian and Turkish leaders, which followed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğans message to President Vladimir Putin, the ministers considered measures to achieve consistent normalisation of the countries" bilateral relations. They discussed renewing tourism, pointing out that lifting restrictions in this area would involve efforts on the part of Ankara to provide security of tourists visiting Turkey, due to a persistent terrorist threat.

The ministers stressed the need to restore cooperation in the settlement of regional conflicts, above all the Syrian crisis, on the basis of the UN Security Council resolutions that determine tasks to assure ceasefire, combat ISIS, Jabhat Al-Nusra and other terrorist groups, resolve humanitarian problems and promote a Syrian internal political dialogue.

The officials agreed to resume the activity of bilateral mechanisms of anti-terrorist cooperation with the participation of their countries" foreign services and intelligence agencies.
