Regarding Decision by Turkish Authorities to Ban Entry into Country of Leaders of Terrorist Formations Operating in Chechnya

2390-20-11-2002

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received with satisfaction the statement by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Moscow, Kurtulus Taskent, at a press conference on November 19 concerning the decision of Turkish authorities to ban the entry into the country of a number of leaders of terrorist formations operating in Chechnya, including M. Udugov, R. Gelayev and others, as well as regarding the expulsion from Turkey of so-called representatives of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Z. Arslangeriyev and R. Dushuyev.

We regard these actions as an important and responsible step by Turkey in fulfilling its international obligations within the framework of the struggle against international terrorism threatening the entire world community and we expect the Turkish authorities to continue to show a principled stand toward the terrorists and their accomplices in the future as well.
