Russian-Turkish Cyprus Settlement Consultations Held
On May 6 Russian-Turkish consultations on Cyprus settlement issues took place in Ankara. From the Russian side Vladimir Prygin, special representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for Cyprus, and on the Turkish side - Baki Ilkin, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkey, conducted the consultations.
The present state of affairs, and the prospects for finding a solution to the problem of Cyprus by negotiations between the two Cypriot sides within the framework of the continuation of the UN Secretary General's Good Offices, on the basis of his comprehensive proposals on Cyprus, were discussed.
The Russian side reaffirmed its principled stand in favor of achieving a just, viable and long-term Cyprus settlement based on the well-known UN resolutions in the interests of all the Cypriots.
